Gladys Williams Cox, 88, of Charlotte, NC, died peacefully in her home, Saturday, September 5, 2015.  She was born in Gaston County, April 8, 1927 to the late Ernest Boyd Williams and Zellie Handsel Williams.

Gladys was truly a Proverbs 31 woman.  She loved the Lord and her family with all her heart.  She was a lifelong member of Cook’s Memorial Presbyterian Church in Charlotte and was a graduate of Paw Creek High School class of 1945.  She was retired from the North Mecklenburg High School cafeteria where she worked from 1974 to 1994.  This was a perfect career for her because she loved to cook and she loved kids.  She also loved gardening and yard work.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her late husband Roy Hayes Cox of Charlotte.  They had been married over 66 years until his death in January of 2012.  She was preceded by sisters: Effie Norton, Edna Martin, Doris Brooks and Diane Williams.  She was also preceded by a grandson, Matthew Alan Cox and brothers: Coyte Williams and Ronnie Williams.

Gladys is survived by three brothers: Tommy (Joyce) Williams, Larry (Mary) Williams and Dennis (Priscilla) Williams and many nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by her three sons: Roy H. Cox, Jr. (Geni) of Greenwood, SC, Stephen L. Cox (Sheila) of Iron Station, NC and Freddie B. Cox (Maria) of Charlotte, NC; six grandsons; one granddaughter and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Wednesday September 9, 2015 at Cook’s Memorial Presbyterian Church.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends following in the church fellowship hall.
