Cain Center under construction Jan. 19

Jan. 19. UPDATED. A natural gas leak at the Cain Center for the Arts construction site has been fixed overnight. Catawba Avenue was blocked off at Town Hall around 5 pm.

Construction workers are showing up for a normal, albeit cold, day.

Traffic overnight was re-directed behind the 3-story live-work units on Catawba. Residents said there was a strong natural gas odor Tuesday evening.

—At 7:30 pm workers said the situation was under control.

—As of 8 pm gas has been shut off, repairs under way, according to Assistant Town Manager Tyler Beardsley.
