Oct. 4. Four veteran Cornelius police officers were recognized at the Town Board’s Oct. 2nd meeting:

—Captain Jennifer Thompson was promoted to the position of Major. Thompson joined the department in 2001 and most recently served as Support Services Captain.

—Charles (Reggie) Vanzant was promoted to the position of Captain. He joined the department in 1997.

—Jonathan Sarver was promoted to Lt. He joined the department originally in 1996.

—Cpl.Derek Queen was promoted to Sgt. He joined the department in 2010 and supervised several K-9 dogs which greatly assisted the department in a wide range of operations
