Fire hits Jay’s At The Lake

20151230_113631Dec. 30. A fire during this morning’s storm caused some damage at Jay’s At The Lake, a mainstay for the late-night crowd on Old Statesville Road/Hwy. 21, just south of Westmoreland Road. No one was injured. Cornelius-Lemley Fire Chief Neal Smith said seven units responded, including crews from Huntersville and Davidson. The chief said a passerby from a local power company, spotted smoke coming from a corner of the building, pulled in and turned the power off, which helped firefighters. Fire investigators were on the scene. A hole was broken through the roof to allow smoke to exit the building. No word yet on whether the fire was due to lightning. Chief Smith said the fire was knocked down quickly. No word yet from Jay’s as to when it will reopen.
