Events July 12 – July 22

If you’ve been to The Marketplace, you know it is a great place to find a fashion-forward accessory or gift. And you also know it’s a place with a mission to help women all over the world escape poverty and trafficking by building their craft-making and entrepreneurial skills. Come hear first-hand about The Marketplace’s latest campaign to rescue women from sex trafficking in Bangkok. Kay Killar, a missionary and director of Marketplace partner Samaritan Creations, will share what it is like to walk the red light district of Bangkok and build relationships with women trapped there. Killar will speak at 6 p.m. Wednesday, and the event will be streamed live on Facebook and Instagram starting at 6:30 p.m.

Thursday, July 12
Community hot dog lunch will be offered each Thursday in June and July. Donations welcome. 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Cornelius.
Officials from Huntersville, Cornelius and Davidson discuss regionalism, communication among lake towns and transportation projects. Open to the public. 5:30 p.m. at Cornelius Town Hall.
LaLaCaboosa series welcomes variety dance band Summerdaze. 6:30-9 p.m. at Veterans Park in Huntersville.
LangTree Live concerts are held every Thursday during the summer. Colby Dobbs will perform 7-9 p.m. at LangTree Lake Norman in Mooresville.
Dogfight the Musical
Based on the 1991 movie, this emotional journey depicts the blissful ignorance of youth as three young Marines set out for a final boys’ night before their deployment to Vietnam. July 12-22 at The Warehouse Performing Arts Center in Cornelius.
Friday, July 13
The Ben Gatlin Band headlines an evening of music, food trucks, craft brews, local artists, kids’ activities, more. 6-10 p.m. at Oak Street Mill in Cornelius.
Opening reception of a judged group exhibit showcasing the diversity and creative work of local photographers. 6-8 p.m. at the Mooresville Art Gallery.
Live music every Friday and Saturday night throughout the summer. Groove Masters will perform 7-9 p.m. at Birkdale Village in Huntersville.
 
Saturday, July 14

A doctor gives a brief presentation on a health topic and then leads participants on a walk. Healthy snacks, coffee, water, and blood pressure checks are offered free of charge. 9-10 a.m. at the Davidson Town Green.
Come play and enjoy raffles, free coffee from Summit, character visit. 9 a.m.-noon at The Davidson Playhouse.

Family Talent Showcase

One Woman Event
The Marketplace has rescued four women from trafficking in Bangkok, Thailand through Samaritan Creations. Kay Killar, director of Samaritan Creations, will share her experiences in Thailand. 6-8 p.m. at The Marketplace in Cornelius.
Join the Cornelius Police Department for a family-friendly event about bicycle and pedestrian safety. 7-8:30 p.m. at Cornelius Town Hall.

Big Day at the Lake
