Events in mid-August are hot, just like the weather

We’ve included some additional dates for events you need to register for in advance. Here’s a look at what’s coming up:

Aug. 12

Movie in the Park

The One and Only Ivan. Movies are open to the public, free of charge and will be shown at Veterans’ Park in Downtown Huntersville. Park opens about 6:30 pm and movies start at dusk.

Aug. 12-14

River Jams

6:30 pm. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights through September, US National Whitewater Center, Charlotte. Free ($6 to park). Enjoy live rock, Americana, bluegrass, folk, and funk.

Aug. 13

Live Under The Oaks 

6-8 pm. SoundBarrier plays a variety of classic rock and pop, beach and country from the 60’s to now. Bring a chair or blanket sit on. The Grove across from Starbucks at Birkdale Village, Huntersville.

2nd Friday Street Festival Series

Celebrate the Lake. 6-10 pm. Live music, special performances, games, vendors, food and drink. Oak Street Mill, 19725 Oak St. Free.

Watch Me Dance – Chicago Stepping 

7-8 pm Fridays through Dec. 26 at the Huntersville Arts & Cultural Center, 109 S. Old Statesville Rd. Purple Charlotte Steppers presents an interactive dance series that promotes social connectivity and health through movement. This series celebrates American style social dancing. Watch Me Dance highlights the American social dance styles birthed in African-American communities, including Chicago Stepping, Detroit Ballroom and Soul Line Dancing. This series is open to children 10 and older and adult children of all ages. Celebrate the Lake

6-10 pm. 2nd Friday Street Festival Series.Oak Street Mill, 19725 Oak St., Cornelius.

Davidson Fan Fest

5:30-8:30 pm. Davidson College  will have members of the Football, Men’s Soccer, Women’s Soccer, Volleyball, Field Hockey, and Men’s Basketball programs in attendance fat Richardson Stadium 6 – 8 pm. They will be available for autographs, pictures, games and more. Live music performed by Kayla Vega.

Aug. 14

Second Saturday Concerts @ The Square

Pushh, rock variety. 6-9 pm at South Main Square in the parking lot by The Crazy Pig, 402 S. Main St.,  Davidson.

Davidson Farmers Market

9 am -noon in downtown Davidson. This year’s 36 vendors include: fruits and vegetables, meat and dairy, freshly baked breads and artisanal baked goods, prepared foods, speciality culinary items, beverages, and health and beauty products.

5th Annual Gaga Ball Tournament

9 am at the Robbins Park gaga pit for a morning of friendly competition. Open to boys and girls ages 7-12.  Age divisions and brackets will be created post-registration based on the ages of the registered participants. Advance registration is encouraged. Online registration is open through Friday, Aug. 13, at 4 pm.

Stand Up Paddleboard 

9:30-11 am. The Cornelius Parks & Recreation Department is partnering with the Lake Norman Community Sailing Center to offer stand up paddleboarding lessons.$25 for Cornelius residents, $35 for others.

Birkdale Village Restaurant Week

Menus will be offered at $15, $25 and $35 price points.

Aug. 15

Concerts on the Green

Band of Oz, beach / variety. 6-8 pm on The Village Green downtown Davidson.

Miss May’s Elegant Tea

2-4 pm. Honoring the late Miss May Davidson at Historic Rural Hill, Huntersville. This year’s theme is the Roaring 20’s. Tickets are $30 per adult and $15 per child. More info: www.ruralhill.com/events or  704-875-3113.

Aug.  17

Disc Golf AM League

5:45 pm Tuesdays through Sept. 7 at Bradford Park, 17005 Davidson-Concord Rd., Huntersville.  Sign-ups start 5:15-5:40 pm by Hole 1. $5 entry. Info: Pat Bowles, pbowles@huntersville.org.

Aug. 19

6-10 pm. Great Wagon Road Dinner. A night of history and  whiskey from Great Wagon Road Distilling and local historian Kris Manley; catered by Bouk Catering. Historic Rural Hill, 4431 Neck Road,  Huntersville. Tickets are $95 per person.

Sept. 18

Music at the Mill

8-9:30 pm. Tony Lucca is a Nashville-based singer/songwriter whose catalog of music runs the gamut from soul-infused pop to tear-jerker folk balladry.
