HAYCOX

HAYCOX

Elliott Ashley “Buzz” Haycox, Jr. entered the promised rest of his savior Jesus on the Lord’s Day, October 25, 2015.  He died peacefully at home, holding the hand of the wife he cherished for 53 years, Bobbi.  He is also survived by the sons he lovingly raised, Tom and T.J.; his daughters-in-law, Jennifer and Bethany; and his grandchildren, Miles, Connor, Mitch, Daniel, Carson, Jonathan, and Harrison.  He was preceded in death by his father, Elliott Ashley Haycox, Sr.; his mother, Margaret; and his sister, Christy.

He was born in Norfolk, Virginia and grew up in Virginia Beach. After graduating from the University of Virginia, he served in the United States Coast Guard, married Bobbi, and worked in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; Montgomery, Alabama; Jackson, Mississippi; and Atlanta, Georgia, before settling in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Professionally, he was respected as a diligent and trusted business manager, which earned his induction into the President’s Club and Hall of Fame of ABC Supply Co., Inc.
Personally, he was admired as a man of impeccable character and genuine faith who looked to meet the needs of others before his own.  He enjoyed retirement years in a golf community in Gulf Breeze, Florida, before returning to Concord, North Carolina, to be nearer to his children and grandchildren.
In addition to caring for his family, he served in the community through Big Brothers Big Sisters, Gideons International, Junior Achievement, and Grace Covenant Church. The family wishes to thank Hospice & Palliative Care–Charlotte Region, Caregiving Corner, Home Careolina, Dr. Jack Faircloth, and James Funeral Home for their compassionate care.  Please direct memorials to the Charlotte Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 33000, Charlotte, North Carolina, 28233, and the USO, P.O. Box 96860, Washington, D.C., 20077.
A celebration of Buzz’s life will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2015, at 2 p.m. at Grace Covenant Church, 17301 Statesville Rd., Cornelius, NC 28031, with a reception following the service at the church.
