Downtown master plan unveiled tonight at town hall

Oct. 13. By Dave Vieser. The long-awaited Cornelius Downtown Master Plan will be unveiled at Monday evening’s Planning Board meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. in town hall. Planning Director Rox Burhans said the plan is the culmination of nearly 15 months of work developed with the assistance of consultant Kimley-Horn.

“This plan contemplates a bold new vision for Old Town Cornelius over the next 25 years,” Burhans said. “This document and its associated appendices are the result of a planning process that began in summer 2024. The process included extensive public engagement, including three public meetings, drop-in office hours, two virtual surveys, pop-up information events, and a series of conferences with key property owners and downtown stakeholders.”

The Planning Board will discuss the plan at Monday’s meeting. If approved, it will be forwarded to the Cornelius Town Board for final consideration and approval.

The meeting is open to the public and will also be live streamed on the town website at www.cornelius.org.
