GATES

Dorothy Ferguson Gates, 91, of Cornelius, NC, passed away Saturday, November 27, 2015 in Charlotte, NC following a 15 year battle with Alzheimer’s.  She was surrounded by all of her family.

She is survived by her husband, William E. Gates; daughters, Pam L. Gates, Patricia G. Massey and Martha E. Gates; grandchildren, Peyton G. Ratliff and Grayson W. Ratliff; sons-in-law, Donald M. Massey and Scobee Woolwine, Jr.; beloved niece, Barbara-Jean Bartlett of Oviedo, FL.  Dorothy was preceded in death by her son, William Barry Gates.

Her dear friend and caretaker, Becky Ladd, was there for Dorothy for over 8 years caring daily for her needs and adding laughter to every day!  Because of her compassionate and tireless care, Dorothy was able to remain in her home until the past few months.

Dorothy was a native of Roanoke, VA, where she enjoyed her church – First Baptist, bridge, cooking, decorating, family and travel.  She will be remembered most for her kindness and being a loving and caring mom, and a devoted wife of 67 years to Bill.

A visitation will be held on Monday, November 30, 2015 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the Simpson Funeral Home, Roanoke, VA.  Graveside Services will be conducted on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at 10:30 am at the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
