Delays expected on W. Catawba near Jetton

West Catawba at Magnolia Estates sewer repair

May 1. By Dave Vieser. Even though Jetton Road Extension has been rebuilt, Cornelius motorists may want to stay away from the busy intersection of West Catawba Avenue and Jetton starting this Friday May 3. The reason: Charlotte Water will be repairing a sewer line at Magnolia Estates Drive. The work will continue through Monday, possibly longer.

“We are removing a cable that was bored through the sewer main in the intersection of West Catawba and Magnolia Estates Drive,” said Clinton Bell, project manager with Atlantic Coast Contractors, which is doing the work for Charlotte Water.

They will also excavate to repair the manhole within that intersection, and will temporarily remove a section of the median to access both northbound lanes to perform the work.

This means West Catawba Avenue traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction in the vicinity of CVS and Jack’s Corner Tap, with a potential for delays.

Concrete restoration will be done after the work is completed. Motorists are urged to seek alternate routes.

The work will last at least four days.
