COVID update Sept. 23: A new death in Davidson, first since Feb. 12

Sept. 23. The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services reported 5,953 new cases of the coronavirus and 71 new deaths statewide compared to 6,288 new cases yesterday and 130 deaths yesterday due to the coronavirus.

One of the new COVID deaths was in Davidson, its first since Feb. 12.

Hospitalizations

Hospitalizations fell to 3,231 statewide, down from 3,400 statewide in Wednesday’s NCDHHS report.

Testing

Positive tests stayed at 11.4 percent statewide. Mecklenburg County’s 14-day percent positive is 10.6 percent. In Iredell County, it’s 13.6 percent; in Cabarrus, it’s 11.3 percent, in Rowan, 15.3 percent. Five percent and below is the goal.

Mecklenburg

In Mecklenburg County, there were 512 new cases in today’s report, down from 693 yesterday. There were eight new COVID deaths reported countywide, including the one in Davidson.

North Mecklenburg (change from Wednesday)

Cornelius: 12 new cases, 3,773 cumulative total, 28 deaths cumulative total.

Davidson: 5 new cases, 2,186 cumulative total, 16 deaths cumulative total.

Huntersville: 27 new cases, 8,226 cumulative total, 64 deaths cumulative total.
