COVID update Oct. 5

Oct. 5. Statewide COVID-related hospitalizations remain under 3,000 for the fourth reporting day in a row. The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services today reported 2,705 people hospitalized due to the coronavirus, up 3.7 percent from yesterday.

On Sept. 3 just before the Labor Day weekend, the NCDHHS reported 3,800 North Carolinians hospitalized due to the coronavirus.

New cases

The NDHHS today reported 2,703 new cases statewide, up from 2,219 new cases yesterday.

Testing

The statewide positivity rate rose to 9.4 percent.

Deaths

There were 93 new deaths statewide.

Mecklenburg

In Mecklenburg County, there were 350 new cases from Monday’s report, with no new deaths. The NCDHHS revised its statistics, reducing the COVID death count in Cornelius by one.

North Mecklenburg (change from Monday)

Cornelius: 6 new cases, 3,900 cumulative total, 28 deaths cumulative total.

Davidson: 4 new cases, 2,239 cumulative total, 17 deaths cumulative total.

Huntersville: 20 new cases, 8,480 cumulative total, 67 deaths cumulative total.
