COVID update Oct. 14: Is the Delta surge over?

Oct. 14. With Dr. Fauci saying we are seeing a decline in the acceleration of coronavirus cases, the NC Dept. of Health & Human Services is reporting an increase in the numbers of cases statewide, but an ongoing, steady decline in hospitalizations.

The NCDHHS reported 3,761 new cases today, up from 3,239 yesterday and 2,148 new cases on Tuesday. New cases of the Delta variant appear to have peaked in North Carolina during late Agust/early September.

Hospitalizations

The NCDHHS reported 2,208 North Carolinians hospitalized due to the coronavirus. Statewide COVID-related hospitalizations have remained under 3,000 since Sept. 30.

Deaths

The NCDHHS reported 80 new COVID-related deaths statewide, none of them in Mecklenburg County.

Testing

The statewide positivity rate fell from 7 percent to 5.9 percent.

Mecklenburg

In Mecklenburg County, there were 229 new cases reported today, as well as one new death. The county-wide positive test rate was 7.5 percent.

North Mecklenburg (change from Wednesday)

Cornelius: 3 new cases, 3,945 cumulative total, 29 deaths cumulative total.

Davidson: 3 new cases, 2,290 cumulative total, 17 deaths cumulative total.

Huntersville: 7 new cases, 8,614 cumulative total, 73 deaths cumulative total.
