COVID update March 9

March 9. The volume of new COVID cases climbed to 1,833 today after being below 1,000 for two days in a row. Still, it’s a big improvement from Feb. 9, when the NC Dept. of Health & Human Services reported 10,513 new cases statewide.

Hospitalizations

COVID-related hospitalizations fell to 1,093 today after climbing slightly to 1,157 yesterday.

Deaths

The NCDHHS also reported reported 47 new deaths statewide due to the coronavirus. After a revision in the Mecklenburg County death toll yesterday, there have been no deaths countywide since March 3. (Total county deaths stand at 1,550.)

Testing

The statewide positivity rate fell to 3.9 percent after what appears to be an upward blip yesterday. The Mecklenburg 14-day trailing average fell to 5.2 percent—half what it was on Feb. 25.

Mecklenburg (change from Tuesday)

There were 91 new COVID cases reported countywide.

North Mecklenburg (change from Tuesday)

• Cornelius: 0 new cases, 6,710 cumulative total, 35 deaths cumulative total.

• Davidson: 4 new cases, 4,067 cumulative total, 21 deaths cumulative total.

• Huntersville: 6 new cases, 15,185 cumulative total, 89 deaths cumulative total.
