COVID update: Is new case volume bouncing along the bottom?

March 1. New COVID cases climbed back over 1,000 in today’s coronavirus report, but it’s new case volume is one-seventh of what it was on Feb. 1. The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services reported 1,231 new cases today.

—The total yesterday: 909 new cases, a seven-month low.

—There were no new cases reported in Cornelius for the first time since early November.

—Another strong decline in COVID hospitalizations, from 1,618 yesterday to 1,543 today.

Deaths

There were 38 new COVID-related deaths statewide. There was only one new death reported in Mecklenburg.

Testing

The statewide positivity rate stayed at 6.9 percent today, while the Mecklenburg 14-day trailing average fell to 8.3 percent.

Mecklenburg (change from Monday)

There were 76 new COVID cases reported countywide.

North Mecklenburg (change from Monday)

• Cornelius: 0 new cases, 6,692 cumulative total, 34 deaths cumulative total.

• Davidson: 1 new case, 4,041 cumulative total, 21 deaths cumulative total.

• Huntersville: 5 new cases, 15,145 cumulative total, 89 deaths cumulative total.
