COVID update: Hospitalizations down again; new death in 28078

Feb. 21. The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services reported that there were 2,296 people hospitalized statewide due to COVID, down 55 percent from the peak Jan. 27.

Today’s new case volume was 2,060—down 95 percent from Jan. 13, the peak of new cases.

Deaths

There were 89 new deaths statewide between Friday’s COVID report and today’s.

Positivity rate

The statewide COVID positivity rate fell to 10.7 percent in today’s report.

—In Mecklenburg, the 14-day trailing average fell to 13.2 percent positive.

Mecklenburg (change from Friday)

There were 891 new COVID cases reported countywide and 9 new deaths, including one new COVID death in Huntersville.

North Mecklenburg (change from Friday)

• Cornelius: 23 new cases, 6,639 cumulative total, 34 deaths cumulative total.

• Davidson: 17 new cases, 4,022 cumulative total, 21 deaths cumulative total.

• Huntersville: 53 new cases, 15,051 cumulative total, 87 deaths cumulative total.

Between Jan. 31 and today’s NCDHHS report, the number of COVID cases increased 6.2 percent in Cornelius; 6.5 percent in Davidson and 5.7 percent in Huntersville.
