COVID update Dec. 14: NC positivity rate over 9%

Dec. 14. The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services today reported 1,932 new COVID cases statewide, down from 2,168 new cases yesterday. Statewide hospitalizations continued a slow but steady increase since Thanksgiving, reaching 1,575 in today’s NCDHHS report. On Nov. 15, there were 1,039 North Carolinians hospitalized due to COVID-19.

Positive tests

The positive test rate statewide climbed from 8.6 percent yesterday to 9.2 percent in today’s NCDHHS report. In Mecklenburg, the positive test rate rose from 7.8 percent yesterday to 8 percent today.

Deaths

The NCDHHS today also reported 23 new deaths statewide, one of them in Mecklenburg.

Mecklenburg

There were 242 new cases reported county-wide between yesterday and today.

North Mecklenburg (change from Monday)

• Cornelius: 8 new cases, 4,251 cumulative total, 32 deaths cumulative total.

• Davidson: 0 new cases, 2,483 cumulative total, 19 deaths cumulative total.

• Huntersville: 15 new cases, 9,407 cumulative total, 74 deaths cumulative total.

On this date one year ago there were 4,770 new cases and 2,553 people hospitalized in North Carolina due to the coronavirus.
