COVID update: Cases continue to rise; a look at one year ago today

Dec. 8. The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services today reported 3,294 new cases of the coronavirus statewide, up from 2,104 new cases yesterday. The positive test rate statewide fell to 8 percent from 9.1 percent in yesterday’s report

The NCDHHS said 1,371 North Carolinians are hospitalized due to COVID, down from 1,376 yesterday.

Deaths

The NCDHHS today also reported 43 new COVID-related deaths statewide.

Mecklenburg

There were 306 new cases reported county-wide as well as three new deaths in Mecklenburg. The positive test rate in Mecklenburg (14-day average) was 7.9 percent.

North Mecklenburg (change from Tuesday)

• Cornelius: 7 new cases, 4,202 cumulative total, 32 deaths cumulative total.

• Davidson: 7 new cases, 2,455 cumulative total, 19 deaths cumulative total.

• Huntersville: 21 new cases, 9,267 cumulative total, 74 deaths cumulative total.

A year ago

On this date one year ago there were 4,670 new cases and 2,373 people hospitalized in North Carolina due to the coronavirus. The death toll then was 5,752. As of today Dec. 8, 2021,  18,923 North Carolinians have died because of COVID-19.
