COVID update Aug. 13: New cases, hospitalizations increase

Aug. 13. The NC Dept. of Health and Human Services today reported 6,628 new cases of COVID-19 statewide, and 2,483 related hospitalizations as the Food and Drug Administration authorizes third doses of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines for immunocompromised people.

The NCDHHS today reported 20 new deaths statewide due to the coronavirus, one of them in Huntersville.

Testing

Positive tests are coming back at the rate of 11.6 percent statewide.

Vaccinnations

The NCDHHS says 48 percent of the total population in North Carolina is vaccinated. Over 12: 56 percent. Over 18: 58 percent. Over 65: 84 percent.

Mecklenburg

In Mecklenburg County, there were 611 new cases, and a total of three new deaths, according to NCDHHS. The county-wide positive test rate is 12.5 percent.

North Mecklenburg (change from Thursday)

Cornelius: 17 new cases, 3,188 cumulative total, 26 deaths total.

Davidson: 11 new cases, 1,877 cumulative total, 15 deaths total.

Huntersville: 50 new cases, 6,819 cumulative total, 55 deaths total.
