COVID hospitalizations under 1,000 for the first time in 8 months

March 12. The volume of new COVID cases climbed to 1,849 Friday after dipping on Thursday. Hospitalizations continued to tumble, dropping below 1,000 statewide for the first time since July.

On Feb. 11, 3,556 North Carolinians were hospitalized due to COVID, compared to 965 on Friday March 11.

Deaths

The NCDHHS also reported reported 30 new deaths statewide due to the coronavirus.

Testing

The statewide positivity rate fell to 2.9 percent. The Mecklenburg 14-day trailing average was 7.1 percent one week prior.

Mecklenburg (change from Thursday)

There were 99 new COVID cases reported countywide.

North Mecklenburg (change from Thursday)

• Cornelius: 3 new cases, 6,718 cumulative total, 35 deaths cumulative total.

• Davidson: 3 new cases, 4,074 cumulative total, 21 deaths cumulative total.

• Huntersville: 3 new cases, 15,192 cumulative total, 89 deaths cumulative total.
