COVID-19 update July 22; new cases up 52.3%

July 22. The NC Dept. of Health & Human Services Thursday reported 1,800 new COVID-19 cases statewide, as well as a total of 751 people hospitalized due to the coronavirus.

The median of the past seven business days of new cases (705) is 52.3 percent ahead of the past 31 days of new cases, based on data from Johns Hopkins University.

Statewide, deaths due to the coronavirus rose by 12, according to NCDHHS. There was one new death reported in Cornelius. The most recent COVID-19 death in Cornelius was reported July 6.

The statewide positive test rate fell from 7.9 percent yesterday to 6.7 percent in today’s report.

Mecklenburg County

There were 257 new coronavirus cases county-wide.

North Mecklenburg (change from Tuesday to today)

Cornelius: 2 new cases, 2,961 cumulative; 27 deaths total.

Davidson: 0 new cases, 1,738 cumulative; 15 deaths total.

Huntersville: 14 new cases 6,207 cumulative; 54 deaths total.
