COVID-19 update April 19: Cases volume increases, 1 new death in Cornelius

April 19. By Dave Yochum. The NC Dept. of Health and Human Services today reported 1,380 new cases of COVID-19 statewide. There have been 31 new deaths statewide since Friday, one of them in Cornelius, according to the NCDHHS report.

The median number of new cases statewide during the past seven business days (2,434) is now running 20.78 percent above the median number of new cases over the past 31 business days (2,098), based on data collected by Johns Hopkins University.

Hospitalizations

The NCDHHS today reported 1,096 people hospitalized statewide due to COVID-19, compared to 904 one week ago.

Testing

Positive tests are coming back at the rate of 6.8 percent statewide, 6.9 percent in Mecklenburg.

North Mecklenburg (change from Friday April 16)

Cornelius: 10 new cases, 2,790 cumulative, 25 deaths total.

Davidson: 9 new cases,  1,629 cumulative 15 deaths total.

Huntersville: 46 new cases, 5,737 cumulative, 48 deaths total.
