County Revaluation Shows Median Home Values Up 15%

Mecklenburg County property owners can expect new assessed values early next year as the county continues its 2027 property revaluation, but it will not directly determine how much property owners pay in taxes. County, city and town officials will set tax rates in spring 2027, which will be applied to the new assessed values.

The county’s Office of Tax Administration has completed an initial review of 428,506 residential and commercial parcels.

The median increase for residential properties is about 15%, while the median increase for commercial properties is about 30%, according to the county. The figures are not final, and assessment staff will continue reviewing properties through the end of 2026.

The revaluation updates property values to their estimated market value as of Jan. 1, 2027. Mecklenburg County conducts a revaluation every four years.

New assessed values are expected to be announced and notices mailed to property owners in early 2027. Property owners will have an opportunity to appeal their new values.

The county is encouraging property owners to review their property-record cards now and report incorrect information, such as the number of bathrooms or other characteristics that could affect an assessment. More information can be found here.
