Aug. 4. By Dave Vieser. It will be a busy evening at Cornelius Town Hall as the Board of Commissioners considers rezoning applications for two separate projects and receives an initial presentation for a proposed 31-unit housing development on Old Statesville Road.
Cashmere Building

Rendering of Cashmere proposal
The public hearing for the proposed six-story Cashmere mixed-use building will resume tonight, following a continuation from the July 21 meeting. In an unusual move, the board previously delayed a decision on the rezoning request for the project, located on Jetton Road Extension.
Mayor Woody Washam and the five commissioners encouraged residents to share their opinions after hearing from 12 speakers at the July meeting, the majority of whom supported the project.
The Cornelius Planning Board had recommended approval of the rezoning, but only if the building is limited to three stories. The applicant is seeking approval for a six-story structure.
Aftonshire Road
Fund 26-Dogwood, LLC is requesting to subdivide one-third acre of vacant land southwest of downtown Cornelius into three buildable lots for single-family homes, with associated accessory dwellings.
Old Statesville Road
Matt Gallagher of Blue Heel Development is seeking approval to construct a 31-unit single-family subdivision on 8.25 acres of primarily vacant land that stretches westward from Old Statesville Road, just south of Washam Potts Road.
No vote will be taken tonight on the proposal, but residents will be able to offer public comments for the record.
Meeting Details
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at Cornelius Town Hall on Catawba Avenue. It will also be livestreamed on the town website: www.cornelius.org.
