Sept. 19. Cornelius Police Department Officer Gabriel Stainback will be laid to rest today in Kannapolis.
The funeral procession will depart from Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord at 11 a.m. and travel to Bethel Baptist Church in Kannapolis, where the service and burial will be held.

His family has launched a GoFundMe campaign with a $4,000 goal to help cover funeral expenses and support his wife, Teonna. As of this morning the contributions totaled $3,218.
Stainback, 26, died Sept. 13 after being struck by a car while riding bikes with his wife in Concord. He was a standout track athlete at Concord High School and at High Point University. The accident is under investigation by the N.C. State Highway Patrol.
Stainback joined the Cornelius Police Department last year as a cadet after graduating from Mitchell Community College’s Basic Law Enforcement Training program, “where he broke the record for the fastest course time,” according to his online obituary.
Citizens wishing to pay their respects may line up outside the church on Dale Earnhardt Boulevard in Kannapolis, a CPD spokesperson said.
