Cornelius police officer arrested by CMPD; resigns from local force

[Update April 29] Cornelius Police this afternoon issued this update on the Cornelius police officer arrested: Officer Erickson Douglas Lee resigned from his position as a Cornelius Police Officer effective immediately on April 28, 2023.

According to the Mecklenburg Sheriff’s website, Lee, 25 remained in county jail Saturday afternoon, with the description of the charge being fugitive / extradition other  state. That state presumably is South Carolina as he was arrested by Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department on charges related to an investigation conducted by the York County, SC Sheriff’s Office.

Police  Chief David Baucom said Lee had served  for about 22 months as a patrol officer.

April 28. The Cornelius Police Department is reporting that an officer was arrested around 10 pm by the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Dept.

Officer Erickson Douglas Lee was arrested by CMPD on charges related to an investigation conducted by the York County, SC Sheriff’s Office.

Cornelius police did not release the nature of the charges.

Lee will be placed on administrative leave. CPD will conduct an internal investigation.

As of 11:45 pm, no additional information was released.

The Cornelius Police Department said it holds officers to the highest professional standards both on and off duty. Any officer who does not conform to these standards will be held accountable when they fail to meet those standards.
