Sept. 22. Cornelius Parks & Recreation announced several internal promotions following the departure of its former superintendent.
Shelby Cruse has been promoted to special events manager. She will oversee town-managed events such as Symphony in the Park, Laketoberfest and Earth Jam. Cruse joined the department seven years ago and has worked with the athletics program and summer camps.
Emily Halden, who has led social media efforts and assisted with special events, has been promoted to the new role of marketing and downtown events manager. She will manage events in the town hall area including Light Up Cornelius, Hop Into Spring and the Flashlight Candy Cane Dash.
Rashad Hart has been promoted to athletics program manager. He previously supported department events, athletic leagues and court rentals. In his new role, Hart will oversee athletic leagues, sports camps, partnerships and rentals.
Mike Wolf, former head of special events, was announced earlier this month as the new recreation superintendent. He will oversee the department’s programs, including partnerships with athletic organizations and recreation groups.
Former superintendent Josh Handelsman left the department in August to return to his hometown of Chicago.
Congratulations to all! A hardworking, talented team.
