The Cornelius Parks and Recreation department will host its annual Black History Month celebration from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Cain Center for the Arts. The free community event is presented in partnership with the Smithville Community Coalition.

This year’s program will feature keynote speakers from the Smithville Community Coalition, a performance by The Jazz Legacy Project and a dance presentation by local praise dancers. Light refreshments will be served following the program.

The event also highlights a special art exhibit by Charlotte-based artist Camisha McDaniel, who creates paintings, sculptures and mixed-media works centered on unity, inclusion and spiritual connection. Her work has earned honors in juried competitions and has been displayed in exhibitions across several states.

McDaniel’s exhibit, “The Swing of Things,” will be on display through Saturday at the Cain Center and at Cornelius Town Hall during regular business hours.
