Core Cafe Pilates Coming to OTC

A new mat Pilates studio is coming to Cornelius this summer and is holding a launch event this week to introduce its owner and new space.
Jayla Holcomb, a Cornelius resident, is opening Core Cafe Pilates on Catawba Avenue across from the Cain Center for the Arts.
Beginning tomorrow, she will host weekly Core Cafe Run Club social events geared toward beginners on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m.
The debut event will feature a live DJ, an optional two-mile run and the opportunity to tour the studio and mingle with other participants.
Refreshments will be provided by Clean Juice and Isa Bella Esthetics & Massage is offering chair massages.
Holcomb, a recent graduate of East Carolina University who is pursuing her masters in healthcare administration, is a fully certified instructor with experience teaching reformer and mat Pilates.
She said her goal is to create a welcoming wellness and fitness community that focuses on form and education, as well as community.
“I feel like a lot of studios don’t have the desire to really educate their clients, and that is something that’s really important to me,” she said. “I did Pilates for years, and once I began instructing, I realized there was so much I was doing wrong.”
She plans to host regular pop-up Pilates classes and wellness collaborations before her official opening, scheduled for July.
“We want to create a space where people can move, meet friends and support each other’s goals,” she said. “We’ll have a strong focus on making fitness feel approachable and not intimidating.”
