Contract Awarded on Bailey Road Extension

The NCDOT has awarded a $7.8 million contract for improvements to Bailey Road in Cornelius aimed at improving safety and traffic flow.
Blythe Development was selected for the project.
Plans call for extending Bailey Road about a half-mile along a new alignment between U.S. 21 (Statesville Road) and Poole Place Drive. A roundabout will also be constructed at the intersection of Bailey Road, Poole Place Drive and the new Bailey Road extension.
The project will also include a connection from the future roadway to the Caldwell Station Creek Greenway using a new culvert. Installation of the culvert will require a temporary closure of the greenway at a later date.
Construction could begin as early as late March, with the roadway portion expected to be finished in fall 2027. Landscaping and vegetation work may continue into spring 2028.
Bailey Road study
The Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization Board approved funding for several transportation projects, including $64,000 for a study of the Bailey Road and NC 115 intersection aimed at improving traffic flow.
