
Bailey Middle School
Sept. 4. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools released its annual academic progress report this week, showing across-the-board gains for the 2024-25 school year.
The report found increases of 5.2% in reading for grades 3–8, 4.6% in math for grades 3–8, and 8.2% in high school.
CMS said 89% of schools met or exceeded growth expectations, the highest percentage in district history. Of that total, 66% of schools exceeded growth — also a record.
Overall, CMS ranked 10th out of 115 public school districts in North Carolina for the percentage of schools meeting or exceeding growth.
Other highlights from the report include:
• 123 schools earned a performance grade of A, B or C, up 21 from 2023-24 — the largest single-year increase in district history.
• 55 schools improved their letter grades, another record single-year increase.
• 31 schools no longer carry a state low-performing designation, the largest single-year decrease on record.
Cornelius schools also posted strong results:
• Bailey Middle School exceeded growth expectations for the fourth straight year.
• Cornelius Elementary and Hough High School also exceeded growth expectations.
• J.V. Washam Elementary met growth expectations.
