Jan. 22. 4PM. Cornelius roads are icing up fast, although businesses like Fresh Chef , Mama’s Pizza and Prosciutto’s Pizzeria are open. The National Weather Service says we’re getting sleet and roads have worsened considerably in the past hour. Cornelius first responders helped a woman stuck at home deliver a baby. Banks were closed, the Post Office was open, and the National Weather Service is calling for freezing rain, sleet AND snow tonight.
Makeup Monday: There will be a CMS makeup day Monday, Jan. 25, originally a teacher workday.
National Weather Service Update at 4PM Saturday: Freezing rain before 9pm, then sleet between 9pm and 10pm, then snow after 10pm. Patchy fog. Low around 26. North northeast wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
More businesses open/closed: As busy season gets under way in earnest, Donna Moffett Accountants & Consultants is open. Lake Norman Chrysler Jeep Dodge was open along with A-1 Vacuum solutions in Huntersville. AlphaGraphics in Kenton Place is open as well as drug stores like Walgreen’s and CVS. Brooklyn South Pizzeria is open for their regular hours but will be keeping an eye on how the storm progresses. Mama’s Pizza Express expects to be open until at least 8. Ace Hardware on North Main is closed. Dunkin’ Donuts and 9Round Kickboxing on Catawba Avenue are closed. Fifi’s Fine Resale was closed Friday, and will be closed Saturday. Owner Julia Austin hasn’t decided about Sunday.
