CLT Water closing part of South Street in Davidson

Aug. 23: Charlotte Water will close South Street from Cathey Street to Mimosa Street from late August to early October because of a major wastewater project.

The connector between Antiquity and downtown Davidson is also home to baseball fields, churches, schools and the future Davidson Town Hall.

The wastewater project, which extends to Hillside at Lorimer, ensures ongoing service for Davidson, according to Charlotte Water.

Consider alternate routes

The street closure and detours are expected to start next week, according to Charlotte Water.

During this time, there will be no parking along both sides of Walnut Street from 7 am to 5 pm. The intersection at Spring Street and South Street will be closed.

If you’re driving in the area consider alternate routes, especially during peak school traffic hours from 7:30 am to 8:30 am and from 3 pm to 4 pm.

Details

The project route begins near the Davidson K-8 School and will end near the Hillside Drive and Lorimer Road intersection.

Chariman Blake Lane will not be closed and there will be no restrictions on parking. Charlotte Water  advises that due to the closure on South Street, there will likely be an increase in traffic along Chairman Blake Lane. The agency said it encourages residents and commuters to stay alert while traveling in the area and to observe all posted traffic and safety signage.

Davidson K-8

Parents and families of Davidson K-8 will receive more information related to this project from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and the School Resource Officer. Families are asked to carpool as much as possible with neighbors to reduce car traffic, and those who are able are encouraged to walk or bike to school.
