July 9. CATS is offering free fares until July 13 for its new Micro transit service, coinciding with the end of its Village Rider bus routes that travel throughout North Mecklenburg.
CATS Micro, launched in last winter, offers point-to-point transportation similar to Uber or Lyft. CATS branded minivans pick up riders at their point of origin and drop them off at a final destination, meaning riders no longer have to walk to a bus stop.
CATS Micro is a fraction of the cost of other ride sharing services. One way fares cost $2.20 for adults and $1.10 for children and seniors – the same price as a CATS bus fare – and tipping is not allowed. Transportation is booked via the CATS-Pass phone app available on mobile app stores.
Passengers can access service weekdays, 6 am to 7 pm and weekends, 7 am to 7 pm. CATS Micro is contained to a defined service zone covering portions of Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville and north Charlotte. This is the first of 19 total micro transit zones planned in the county.
