Candidate Forum & BBQ Oct. 6

 

Eleven candidates for the Cornelius Town Board will be in the collective hot seat Friday for the Old Fashioned BBQ & Candidate Forum in the Community Room at Town Hall. Doors open at 11 am, lunch is served at 11:30 am, the program begins at 11:55 am.

The event, which is hosted by Cornelius Today, costs $9.50 to attend via online tickets, or $10 at the door. The price includes a traditional pork barbecue lunch, complete with cole slaw, beans, chips, cookies and a beverage.

At the conclusion of the event, a check will be presented to the TopDeck Foundation, which supports Cornelius Police Department.

Cornelius Police Sgt. Jonathan Sarver, a remarkable gospel singer, will lead the assembly in “The Star Spangled Banner.” Mayor Pro Tem Woody Washam will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Rev. Ellison Bowman, pastor of Torrence Chapel AME Zion Church, will give the blessing.

Rev. David Judge, pastor of First Baptist Church in Cornelius, will moderate the forum. Bridget Rainey, co-founder of TopDeck, will be the timekeeper.

The event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 6 at Town Hall. Candidates are available to greet the public before and after the formal program. Admission will be $9.50. Click here www.EventBrite.com to order tickets.
