March 1. Cain Center for the Arts has added two completely new spring performances, including one with a strong local connection.

Dustbowl Revival is a totally new show, at 8 pm on Friday May 10. They have “always been about pushing the boundaries of what American roots music can be. In many ways, they could have continued creating joyful, booty-shaking songs and cut-to-heart folk-rock ballads that lift up their transcendent live shows – and mining new energetic material from the place where folk music, funk and soul meet.”

The performance with the strong local connection is Philip Hamrick, music director at Love Lake Norman, a non-denominational church that the meets each Sunday morning at the Cain Center. The Mooresville singer-songwriter is releasing his first album since 2016 with “The Tunnel Club,” his first solo record as an independent artist. The title track takes listeners on a hitch-hiker’s journey through the South in the 1940s. He’s performing Friday, May 31 at 8 pm.

—The Cain Center has added another show for comedian Jeff Allen whose rapid-fire humor centers on marriage and family. The newly added show is at 4 pm April 13, in addition to the originally scheduled show at 7 pm.
