Cabarrus eases up on tax deadlines, penalties

April 26. Cabarrus County has a unique approach to helping business cope with the COVID-19 crisis. The County Commission waived deadlines and penalties for occupancy taxes as well as ad valorem listings.

Occupancy taxes are due and payable on the 20th day of each month. The board waived the penalty associated with missing the deadlines for April and May, as long as monthly reports are filed and the taxes are paid in full by June 20.

Individuals and businesses that filed an extension by the Jan. 31 ad valorem property tax listing deadline were allowed to complete the listing by April 15. If they were unable to meet the April 15 deadline, the county granted a waiver of the penalty associated with the late listing, as long as it’s filed by June 1.

Roughly 1,500 businesses and individuals will be affected.
