March 29. With COVID ebbing, Big Day at the Lake is getting back to normal—the picnic at the Duke Energy Explorium is a go after a two-year absence. About 100 Littles and their Bigs—adult mentors—will enjoy a full day on Lake Norman thanks to a flotilla of Boat Hosts.

This annual event supports Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Central Carolinas (BBBSCC) and each year hundreds of people participate.

Big Day at the Lake has three goals:

—Provide a full day of fun for kids in BBBSCC

—Raise funds for an effective, well-run organization

—Recruit Bigs to mentor at-risk kids in BBBSCC.

Big Day at the Lake has raised more than $ 110,000 for BBBSCC so far this year, thanks to generous donors and sponsors.

Presenting Sponsors include Atrium Health; Champion Tire & Wheel; South Creek Construction; Freedom Boat Club; Lake Norman Chrysler Dodge Jeep; and Ericka and Bill Cain.

Admiral Sponsors include ACN Inc., Carolyn & Jim Duke; Glacier Construction; Cashion’s Quik Stop; Bridgett & Don Rainey; Lake Norman Chrysler Jeep Dodge; The Short Family Foundation; and ACN, Inc.

There are several ways to support at-risk kids in BBBSCC:

—Volunteer as a Boat Host July 16

—Consider becoming a Big Sister or Big Brother

—Donate to BBBSCC through Big Day at the Lake.

A complete list of Big Day at the Lake sponsors is in the Thank You ad each month in the print edition of Cornelius Today. (Page 33 March edition.)
