Barbara Green passes away at 52

Barbara Knapp Green, a popular decorator who owned Sensibly Chic, has passed away at 52. She was a former member of the Lake Norman Executive Board, the Lake Norman Chamber and a volunteer leader of Big Day at the Lake. She was  named one of the 50 most influential women by the Mecklenburg Times.

A celebration of her life will be held 6:30 pm Wednesday, Oct. 28 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1900 The Plaza in Charlotte. The family has asked that attendees wear attire that is “pink and sparkly” in her honor.

Her “Ask the Design Diva” radio show aired on WAVO 1150 AM in Charlotte, and in syndication through Passionate Talk Radio.

She was a director of the Charlotte LGBT Chamber of Commerce, as well as the Charlotte and Cabarrus chambers. She was also a member of and served on the leadership team for the eWomen Network.

Green, who was born on June 10, 1963, was a graduate of Montclair State University in Montclair, N.J.

The family has requested In lieu of flowers and cards, that contributions be made to 41 Percent, a non-profit organization that pairs transgender mentors with mentees in order to reduce the possibility of suicide among transgender individuals.

She is survived by two daughters, Shannon and Bonnie.
