First thing you do when you walk into work? I walk the entire building and try to greet as many students and staff members as possible. I take great pride in being visible and accessible, and I do my best to say good morning or give a fist bump to as many people as I can. Building relationships starts with being present.

Coffee, tea, or something stronger? Two cups of coffee at 5 a.m. and another when I get to work. That’s usually enough to get me through the day.

What part of your job would surprise people the most? People always ask me what my favorite part of the job is. Without hesitation, I always say the students. The students at Hough are remarkable. I love their dedication, work ethic, and commitment to excellence. Watching them grow and succeed is what makes this job special.

What small decision eats up way more time than it should? Every situation is unique. With a staff of 180 and nearly 2,500 students, people understandably want answers immediately. However, it’s important to gather information from everyone directly involved before making a decision. That process can take time, but taking the time to get it right matters.

What’s always on your desk (besides a phone and computer)? Pictures and notes from my children.

Favorite quick lunch in town? Honestly, I usually eat on the run at work. A McChicken or a Circle K chicken sandwich always seems to hit the spot.

Best advice you’ve ever received about business? Be on time. Be nice. Do your job.

A daily habit that keeps you sane? Getting outside for some fresh air during lunch. It’s a great opportunity to talk with students, build relationships, and step away from emails and meetings for a few minutes.

What’s the five-minute task you refuse to delegate? Husky of the Month. I love walking the building with our administrative team and personally recognizing students who have earned the award.

What advice would you give to your 18-year-old self? Trust the process. Stay true to who you are. Don’t ever give up. The challenges you face today will help shape the person you become tomorrow.
