Austin Lewis wins Rotaract scholarship

​Matthew “Austin” Lewis ​has ​won t​he 2017 Rotaract scholarship​ sponsored by the Rotary Club of North Mecklenburg​. ​He was secretary of the Rotaract Club at ​the Merancas Campus ​of C​entral Piedmont Community College​ and maintain​ed​ a 4.0 GPA.

The son of Jamie and Angela Purvis, ​who live Mooresville, ​Austin will attend UNC​-​Chapel Hill. The purpose of Rotaract is to provide an opportunity for young men and women to enhance the knowledge and skills that will assist them in personal development, to address the physical and social needs of their communities, and to promote better relations between all people worldwide ​within a framework of friendship and service.

Rotaract originally began as a Rotary International youth program ​40 years ago​ at Charlotte North Rotary Club​. Since then it has grown into a major Rotary-sponsored organization of over 9,522 clubs spread around the world​.
