Algae bloom in cove off Torrence Chapel; no swim advisory still in effect

June 14. [Updated 9 am June 16] An active Harmful Algae Bloom (HAB) has been found in a cove off Torrence Chapel Road. Lake users are advised to avoid the cove until the bloom is no longer present.

The algae bloom is cyanobacteria.

The bloom was confirmed by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services after a report of bright green and bluish water with a surface scum in the cove just to the west of Norman Shores Drive.

UPDATE: At 8 am Monday Char-Meck Storm Water Services said the no-swim advisory was still in effect. The water will be tested again today.

A no swim advisory was in effect Saturday and Sunday.

If you see a bloom, you can report it to NCDEQ at Algae.NC.gov.
