Sources: Alexander Farms gains new backers

Alexander Farms

Dec. 5. By Dave Vieser. A new group that includes representatives of River Rock Communities will move forward in some capacity with the 54.7-acre Alexander Farms commercial retail project, according to multiple sources. Details are expected to be unveiled next week.

River Rock is the developer of the residential portion of the project that was initially approved in 2020.

The commercial portion of the plan has been stalled for more than a year because of legal and financial issues. The approved rezoning for Alexander Farms includes several commercial uses: restaurant, general retail and a grocery store. These approved uses and elevations remain in place regardless of who the developer may be.

Legal hurdles may be clearing

One lawsuit that has delayed progress on the development is close to being resolved. The dispute was between an entities affiliated with River Rock Communities and Alexander Farms MU, the master and commercial developer led by WIN Development, which had lost financial backing for the project.

All parties recently filed a joint motion to dismiss the case before the North Carolina Supreme Court.

Manor going up

Site preparation began earlier this week on River Rock Manor, a 55+, 142-unit, three-story housing complex on the northern edge of the property. Amenities include a two-story clubhouse with a resident lounge, coffee bar and café, as well as a heated resort-style pool and sundeck. Pricing for residences will be announced closer to opening, which is expected in fall 2026.
