Town Roundup: New Staff, Police Pay Increase
Cynthia Broomfield hired as assistant town manager
By Dave Vieser — Two new senior-level employees were introduced at the Cornelius Town Board this week: Cynthia Broomfield, the town’s new assistant town manager, and Steve Bridges, the new public works director.
Broomfield holds a bachelor’s degree in communication with an emphasis in public relations from Ashland University in Ohio. Before joining the town, she spent more than eight years in local government in Port Huron, Michigan, serving in progressively responsible leadership roles, including deputy city manager and chief of staff.
Broomfield recently moved to Cornelius with her husband and two young sons. She said her family enjoys exploring parks, playgrounds and trails. She will receive an annual salary of $180,000 and succeeds Wayne Herron, who is retiring next month.
Steve Bridges named public works director
Bridges succeeds Tyler Beardsley as public works director. Beardsley left the town to oversee the electric operations in Huntersville. Before joining Cornelius, Bridges has years of experience with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, and most recently served as public works director in Statesville.
Bridges is originally from Waynesville and is married with two children. He will receive an annual salary of $129,000.

- The town is accepting applications for an open seat on the Transportation Advisory Board. The board, led by Mayor Pro Tem Michael Osborne and chaired by Jason Happe, works with the N.C. Department of Transportation to help identify and prioritize road projects in the Town of Cornelius. Click here for more information.
- Backed by the new fiscal year tax increase, the Cornelius Police Department is advertising job openings for police officers with a new starting salary of $63,528 a year, up from $53,801 prior to the tax increase.
