By Ryan Moxon — While the Hough football team prepares for postseason play to begin next week following an opening-round bye, here are updates on the Huskies’ other fall teams, including the girls flag football and boys and girls cross country teams, which will compete this weekend.

Girls flag football: The Huskies won their opening-round playoff game against Pinecrest 45-26 last Saturday and will travel to Palisades this Saturday for a rematch of their only loss of the season. Hough finished the regular season 12-1 and won its conference with a 9-0 record.

Cross country: The Hough girls team placed fifth and the boys team sixth at the 8A West Regionals. Both teams will compete in the state championship meet Saturday at the Ivey Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville.

Seven individual runners set personal records at the regional meet. On the boys side, Grant Collum placed fourth and Will Shaffer eighth. For the girls, the top finisher was Stella Stromberger, with three additional Huskies finishing in the top 25.

Boys soccer: Hough battled back from a two-goal deficit in its second-round playoff game against Providence on Thursday night, tying the game on goals by senior Calen Smith and senior Lukas Patrignani. However, the Huskies fell 3-2 to the top-seeded Panthers, ending their season. Hough finished with a 12-9-4 overall record and placed third in the conference with a 6-3-1 record.

Senior Timi Soremekun led the team with 27 points and 13 goals. Senior Ignacio Guzman led the Huskies with 10 assists, while sophomore goalkeeper Alex Fagan compiled 152 saves.

Girls volleyball: The Hough girls volleyball team finished the season with a conference championship and a 19-13 overall record. The Huskies defeated Providence and Pinecrest in the first two rounds but fell to Ardrey Kell 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-20) in the quarterfinals.

Junior Addi Frasure led Hough with 157 kills, while junior Bella Ah Hoy recorded a team-best .215 hitting percentage and 46 total blocks. Sophomore Kynlee Perry led the Huskies with 250 assists, sophomore Aideen Smith had a team-high 244 digs, and sophomore Kara Stump led in service aces with 54.

Girls tennis: Hough lost in the first round of the 8A Dual Team Tennis competition to South Mecklenburg, finishing with a 3-13 overall record and a 2-5 conference record.

It was a rebuilding year for first-year head coach Dave Gilroy, who said he will welcome back the team’s No. 1 player, Chloe Ketner, for her senior year, along with a group of freshmen and sophomores who had solid debuts this fall.
