A popular off-Broadway production begins a 10-show run Friday at the Warehouse Performing Arts Center in Cornelius.

“I’m Gonna Marry You Toby Maguire” is adapted from a book written by Samantha Hurley and tells the fictional story of the popular actor at the height of his “Spider-Man” fame.

The story is set in 2004 and follows a lonely 14-year-old named Shelby Hinkley who kidnaps Maguire to force him into marrying her. The dark comedy, tinged with early 2000s nostalgia, explores relationships and the use of online popular culture to escape real-world problems.

The production is led by two Cornelius residents, including director Jessica Zingher of Zingher Productions and assistant director Patrick Dodds. The show is recommended for audiences ages teenage and older.

The scheduled run from Sept. 25-Oct. 11 includes matinee and evening shows. Tickets cost $25 for general admission and $20 for seniors and students and are available online or by calling the box office at (704) 425-5564.
