Final Day to Claim Free Box Fans
Today is the final day that Mecklenburg County is providing free box fans to help eligible residents combat the heat.
The program, offered by Mecklenburg County Child, Family and Adult Services’ Services for Adults division, is available to county residents age 60 and older, as well as adults ages 18 to 59 who receive disability income.
Fans are limited to one per person. Recipients must present a valid driver’s license or state-issued ID showing proof of age and a current Mecklenburg County address. Individuals may pick up a fan on behalf of an elderly or mobility-impaired resident if they provide the required identification and eligibility documentation for the recipient.
County officials said more than 600 box fans have already been distributed this summer through Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, with the fans provided in part through contributions from Duke Energy.
Residents seeking more information about the program may contact the Services for Adults division at 980-314-6800 or by email at [email protected].
