Jam for Jack on Sunday

A community concert this weekend will celebrate the life and legacy of Jack Conard Jr., a longtime Cornelius historian known for preserving the photographs, stories and memories that document the town’s history.

Jam for Jack will be held from 4-9 p.m. on Sunday at the Old Town Event Center in the Oak Street Mill downtown. The free community event will feature live music, fellowship and remembrance of Conard, whose lifelong work created the Conard Collection, an archive of historical materials that chronicles generations of Cornelius history.

The collection represents Conard’s decades-long effort to preserve the community’s stories and is considered an important record of the town’s past. Organizers are accepting donations to help preserve and archive the collection and establish a permanent home for it at the Cornelius History Museum.

Performers scheduled to appear include Billy Jones and the Pocket and Kris Atom, with additional performers to be announced.

Conard’s favored Pabst Blue Ribbon will be available, and attendees may bring their own beverages. Guests are also invited to bring a covered dish to share.

The event is free and open to the public.
