Books for the Beach and Beyond

By Lyn Muldrow – The summer is winding down but for last-minute vacation veterans and road trip referees we have the perfect books for your adventures. Stop by the library and grab a summer-themed read for your next journey, or find something to take you away on an imaginary escape.

“Summers at the Saint” by Mary Kay Andrews (Adult romance)

At The Saint, you’re either a Saint or an Ain’t. Where vacations were once determined by which side of the social divide you fell on, widowed hotel owner and former Ain’t Traci Eddings takes a chance on redemption and hopes to return The Saint to its former glory. A second-chance romance with plenty of intrigue, this is one to keep you engaged on hot summer days.

“Bad Kitty Goes to the Beach” By Nick Bruel (Children)

Bad Kitty does not like the beach. She loves her chair and bed and has no interest in trading them for sand and sun. Find out whether Bad Kitty finds joy at the beach, or at least finds something joyful to eat.

“The Summer I Ate the Rich” By Maika and Maritza Moulite (Young adult)

Have you ever heard the term “eat the rich?” In this young adult horror novel, the zombie protagonist does just that. A darker but compelling summer read that explores themes of racial inequity and revenge, this book explores the human condition in a decidedly literal way.

“Slow Burn Summer” By Josie Silver (Adult romance)

Publishing and book industry nerds, rejoice. This fake-dating romance follows a pretend romance writer on a book tour and her fake talent agent, whose fabricated story begins to mirror real life. Sweet and full of heart, it’s a second-chance romance set in London during the summer.
