Sunset Cove Withdrawn from Town Planning

By Dave Vieser — Cornelius businessman and resident Larry Griffin has withdrawn his Sunset Cove event venue proposal from further town consideration.

The project, which had received a recommendation of denial from town planners, was scheduled for a public hearing Monday evening.

“After further discussion with town staff, our attorney and many neighbors, we have decided to withdraw our current application from the June 8 Planning Board agenda and plan to reapply with a revised proposal,” Griffin said in a memo distributed late Friday afternoon. “This decision was made because we now see an opportunity to return with a better-defined plan that is more compatible with the neighborhood while still preserving the long-term vision for the property.”

The original proposal faced opposition from some nearby residents, as well as town planners, who viewed it as inconsistent with the town’s land use plan.

In his memo, Griffin said the development team would take time to revise the proposal.

“We believe this reset will give everyone a clearer understanding of what is being proposed and allow us to address concerns more thoughtfully before moving forward,” he said.
